What is Ekoliderrak

The main goal of GAZTE EKOLIDERRAK is to create an active network made up of young people to work towards sustainable development in Gipuzkoa.

This project is the result of KUTXA´s commitment to sustainable development and youth leadership. Moreover, the project is supported by Eusko Ikaskuntza and Cristina Enea Foundation. The learning offer mainly includes lecturers in several disciplines, entity representatives, professionals of a wide range field, associations, experts, activists and mountain climbers, among others, to work from different points of view leadership and sustainable development issues.

In 1991 the Rockefeller Foundation started an initiative called LEAD ( Inspiring Leadership for a Sustainable World –Inspiring a new leadership for a sustainable world). Since then, more than 2000 people from all over the globe, after going through a learning period in leadership and sustainable development, are now members of the LEAD network ( LEAD fellows network ). Therefore, it is a very important reference for this project that we are initiating, a project that we have adapted and adjusted to our reality needs and sphere of action.

The project Gazte Ekoliderrak can be summarized in three words: Trebatu-ekin-izan and each of them reflects a stage of the project:

  1. Trebatu: This first stage is the learning stage. Participants will be trained in sustainable development and leadership themes.
  2. Ekin: The second stage will be focused on the action, putting into practice what was learned in the previous stage. Therefore, participants will have to develop a project in their municipality or region and report it.
  3. Izan: After these two stages, it is expected from the participants to become an active part of the Gazte Ekoliderrak network

Why gazte ekoliderrak?

Up to now and at a global scale we are using more than a 30% of the natural resources and ecological services generated by the planet. If the natural resources are our “capital”, instead of living from its “interests”, what we are doing is spending the capital itself. The result of this situation is that each day we are poorer: since 1970 we only have 70% of it left and each year we spend approximately 1% of it

Therefore, sustainable development has become a great challenge nowadays for our economical, political and cultural system. So to be able to face this challenge a new leadership is necessary in every sphere: business, administration, cultural sphere and civil society

If the present society would get actively involved in the protection of the environment, we would achieve a great guarantee for our future .

Starting from neighbourhoods, towns and nations until achieving a global scale change towards sustainability.

The main goal of this initiative is therefore to create a young leaders network in Gipuzkoa.
